He described himself in the intake form as “a late starter”. The photographs confirmed the assessment, and added a detail he had not mentioned.

What the face showed

A modest Upper Court — narrower forehead, lower brow ridge — and a markedly strong Middle Court: prominent, well-fleshed nose, strong cheekbones, clear nasolabial structure. The Lower Court was adequate but not generous.

In Mian Xiang the Upper Court governs the early period, the Middle Court the working years, and the Lower Court the later years. A strong Middle Court with a modest Upper Court is one of the clearest profiles there is: a slow beginning followed by a substantial middle.

What he added

He had failed his first degree, worked in sales for six years, and built his current company from the age of thirty-one. The reading matched without needing any of that information.

The note of caution we always add

Structure describes disposition and tendency — not entitlement. A strong Middle Court does not deliver anything on its own. It indicates that effort spent in those years returns more than effort spent earlier.
