Classical Feng Shui — Form and Compass

Feng Shui — literally wind and water — is the Chinese practice of aligning a built environment with the movement of Qi. Its earliest systematic text, Guo Puu2019s Zang Shu (葬书), dates to the Jin dynasty and already contains the whole theory: where energy gathers it can be of use, where it disperses it cannot.

The tradition split into two working schools, and a serious consultation uses both.

Form School — 形法

Form School reads the physical shape of a place: the arrangement of rooms, the position of the door relative to the stair, what a window looks out onto, where the bed sits in the room. Its central idea is the commanding position — the spot from which you can see the entrance without being directly in line with it. Almost everything Form School recommends about a bedroom or a desk comes back to that idea.

Compass School — 理气

Compass School brings direction and time into the reading, using a compass bearing (a luo pan) together with the occupantsu2019 birth data. Here we work with the bagua map, the Five Elements and the annual movements of Qi, which is why a home that read well three years ago can need a different adjustment today.

Sha qi and its corrections

Sha qi is sharply moving energy — a corridor that ends in a bed, a corner aimed at a desk, an exposed beam over a pillow, a mirror facing the front door. None of it requires demolition. Classical corrections are usually quiet: repositioning, a screen, a curtain, a plant, a change of material. The best Feng Shui is often invisible afterwards.

How we work

Send a floor plan drawn to scale and the compass bearing of your front door, taken from inside. We return a Qi map of the plan, a ranked list of adjustments, and a short video walking through each one.
